Leroy-Somer, a Nidec company founded in 1919 and headquartered in Angoulême, France, specializes in electromechanical drive systems and energy-efficient motor technology. It produces AC motors, gear motors, alternators, and variable speed drives designed for sectors such as energy, marine, aerospace, and industrial automation. Leroy-Somer is known for its emphasis on system reliability, modular design, and sustainability, helping clients reduce downtime and energy costs. Operating across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa, it serves OEMs and infrastructure projects globally.
The new investments in the Nidec Leroy-Somer Foundry, launched last Thursday in the presence of the President of the Nouvelle Aquitaine Region and of local officials, tie in with the ambitious transformation and modernisation plan for the sites, presented last spring. The newly-launched project will immediately help improve competitiveness.
Pursuing its constant innovation approach aimed at making its machines increasingly ergonomic and automated, Cincinnati VR has chosen to equip its new pillar drill-thread cutter with a new integrated variable speed motor, the Commander ID300 from Leroy-Somer. This drive solution enables adaptation of the spindle rotation speed according to the material being worked, for a better-quality machining result.
For more than fifty years the Leroy-Somer foundry has been designing and producing grey and spheroidal graphite cast-iron components in short, medium and long production runs. A pillar of the engine manufacturer's industrial organisation, the unit also provides a multi-sector response to the most demanding technical briefs for the design, engineering or manufacturing of foundry components.
