Solving challenges of small part machining - CoroDrill® 462 and CoroDrill® 862 from Sandvik Coromant

CoroDrill® 462 and CoroDrill® 862 mark a new era for micro drilling difficult-to-machine materials. “If you can’t do the little things right,” wrote the retired US admiral and author William H. Raven, “you will never do the big things right.” This approach certainly applies to small part machining, where the advantages of smaller electronic components benefit a range of sectors like medical, automotive, electronics and aerospace. But could manufacturers be better equipped to produce smaller parts productively and cost-effectively?.

THE NEW GENERATION OF MICRO DRILLS

Sandvik Coromant, a global leader in machining solutions, has launched two new microdrill families specifically designed for precision machining. The CoroDrill® 462 with -XM geometry and the CoroDrill® 862 with -GM geometry support industries that demand small parts manufacturing, such as medical, automotive, electronics and aerospace. Designed to cover a variety of workpiece materials, the new drills offer precise performance where accuracy is key.

A NEW FORM OF CHIP CONTROL

Sandvik Coromant has unveiled a new machining method that enables controlled chip breaking in thread turning applications. Launched within the existing CoroPlus® Tool Path software, OptiThreading is a new software module that will help manufacturers overcome one of the most significant issues within thread turning — the risk of chip jams and their associated downtime.

Fixing what isn’t broke

Why manufacturers should embrace a new generation of tooling solutions.

COROTAP® OVERVIEW

With a complete tapping programme covering all thread profiles and material groups, Sandvik Coromant offers two tapping ranges: optimized for ISO-specific materials and optimized for flexibility.

New carbide inserts for productive and efficient steel turning

Sandvik Coromant carbide grades offer greatly extended tool-life and more reliable performance. Sandvik Coromant is upgrading its range of turning inserts for machining ISO-P steels. The tooling specialist has launched two new carbide grades that are designed for external and internal machining of low-alloyed and unalloyed steels. The new inserts, called GC4415 and GC4425, deliver increased toughness, heat resistance and predictable wear.

A DRILL FOR ALL MATERIALS

Korean automotive manufacturer sees 1,150% increased tool life with CoroDrill® 860-GM. It’s said that life is a marathon, not a sprint. For automotive manufacturers, longer lasting tooling solutions are integral to more profitable production — but, often, manufacturers see little reason to change their existing tool set-up. Here, James Thorpe, global product manager at Sandvik Coromant, the global leader in metal cutting tools, explains why the benefits of longer-lasting tools — like the latest addition to its CoroDrill range — shouldn’t be underestimated, particularly for reducing costs-per-part or increasing overall output.

Sharing knowledge for successful machining

World leader in machine tooling, Sandvik Coromant has launched a new online application training to share knowledge and best practices for metal cutting operations. The eight-part programme has been released online and is accessible via the Sandvik Coromant website. Embarking on the programme, customers will develop theoretical and application-based knowledge in turning, milling, drilling and threading for both indexable and solid round tools.
