Stratasys Launches F870 Large-Format FDM Additive Manufacturing Platform

Stratasys Ltd. has introduced the F870 FDM system, a large-format additive manufacturing platform developed for industrial manufacturers, automotive OEMs, and aerospace and defense production facilities. The system provides large-scale component production in a fully heated build chamber to manufacture manufacturing aids, assembly fixtures, tooling, and functional end-use parts at factory throughput and reliability.

Automotive Evaluation and Industrial Tooling Applications
Automotive manufacturers are evaluating the platform ahead of commercial availability, with deployments underway at Toyota Production Engineering in Georgetown, Kentucky, and Rivian Automotive in Plymouth, Michigan. These organizations are implementing the system across factory-floor tooling, manufacturing aids, and prototyping workflows.

The system targets production-support hardware—such as large fixtures, assembly tools, and inspection gauges—that conventionally require lengthy machining lead times.

"Manufacturers are looking for proven solutions to speed up production, reduce cost, and respond in real-time to ever-changing supply chain and manufacturing requirements," stated Rich Garrity, Chief Business Unit Officer at Stratasys. "The new platform is geared towards real manufacturing environments, delivering our leading industrial-scale capabilities with increased build capacity, combined with Stratasys’ proven materials, and production reliability at a competitive price-point."

"The F870's combination of build size, material performance and industrial features aligns with the kinds of manufacturing needs we're looking to address," stated Dallas Martin, Additive Manufacturing Engineer at Toyota North America.

Chamber Dimensions and Engineering Materials
The platform features a build volume of 1000 x 610 x 610 mm (39.4 x 24 x 24 in.) within a fully heated chamber. Compatible industrial thermoplastic materials include ASA, ABS, FDM ABS Draft (Gray), and Nylon 12CF carbon fiber. In particular, the carbon-fiber-reinforced Nylon 12CF formulation provides structural rigidity, stiffness, and durability for demanding tooling and fixture installations.

Trade Show Presentation at IMTS 2026
Stratasys will present the F870 additive manufacturing platform alongside other manufacturing technologies at IMTS 2026, taking place September 14–19, 2026, at Booth 338460 in the South Hall at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

Additional Context
This section details technical specifications not included in the original news release.

Large-format industrial material extrusion systems maintain active chamber heating up to 95°C to preserve isothermal environments across extended build lengths, mitigating thermal gradient stress and interlayer delamination in semi-crystalline and amorphous polymers. Material delivery configurations in this class utilize automated four-canister bay architectures accommodating high-capacity 4,100 cm³ filament spools paired with active regenerative desiccant drying assemblies to protect hygroscopic polyamides from moisture absorption during continuous production runs extending up to two weeks. Swappable extrusion modules balance mechanical deposition rates and detail resolution, using hardened tool-steel nozzles for abrasive chopped-carbon-fiber filaments alongside high-flow print heads capable of layer heights up to 0.33 mm. Component accuracy in large-envelope FDM platforms typically achieves XY planar tolerances within ±0.254 mm or ±0.002 mm/mm, with vertical Z-axis accuracy held within ±0.200 mm or ±0.002 mm/mm plus one layer thickness. Digital factory integration is supported through MTConnect open communication standards, enabling real-time equipment monitoring and sensor data harvesting within automated manufacturing execution systems (MES).
