CAD/CAM Integration for High-Power Cutting Systems

Lantek has signed a collaboration agreement with Machitech to integrate its CAD/CAM software solutions into Machitech’s laser and tube cutting machines, strengthening digital workflow integration for high-performance cutting applications in North America and Europe.

Partnership scope and strategic context
The collaboration aligns with Lantek’s international growth strategy and its focus on working with technology-oriented machine builders. Under the agreement, Machitech will deliver its Fiber PRIME S™ laser cutting machines equipped with Lantek Expert Cut software, while the Fiber TUBE XL™ tube cutting systems will integrate Lantek Flex3D Tubes.

For Machitech, the partnership formalizes the use of a dedicated, industry-proven software environment to support machine performance, accuracy, and productivity from initial commissioning through full-scale production.

Machitech’s cutting platforms and application focus
Based in Quebec, Machitech specializes in custom-built cutting systems, with particular expertise in high-power plasma and oxy-fuel technologies. These solutions address demanding industrial use cases, such as heavy plate processing and large structural components, where thermal stability, precision, and robustness are critical.

In recent years, Machitech has expanded its portfolio to include steel structures, profiles, and tube cutting. This expansion targets manufacturers producing complex, high value-added components, often with tight tolerances and variable geometries.

The Fiber PRIME S laser cutting series covers power ranges from 12 to 60 kW and supports bevel cutting for thick steel. An XL configuration is available for very long workpieces and includes touchscreen operation and remote management functions, supporting continuous production in industrial environments.

Software integration for flat cutting applications
The Fiber PRIME S machines will be delivered with Lantek Expert Cut, Lantek’s CAD/CAM solution for 2D laser cutting. The software provides automated nesting, optimized cutting path generation, and process control tailored to high-power laser systems.

A key feature is the Assembly 2 Nest (A2N) importer, which allows direct handling of 3D assemblies and geometries within the same working environment. This capability enables users to extract flat parts from complex assemblies without switching tools, supporting faster programming and reduced risk of data inconsistencies.

Tube and profile machining with Flex3D Tubes
For tube cutting, Machitech’s Fiber TUBE XL integrates Lantek Flex3D Tubes, a CAD/CAM solution developed for large-diameter tubes and structural profiles. The system supports round and square tubes, hollow structural sections (HSS), and small beams, with processing lengths of up to 40 feet.

Flex3D Tubes enables part design, nesting, and machining directly on tubular geometries. It supports the import of SAT and IGES files and provides process simulation to validate cutting operations before execution. Real-time parameter adjustment helps manage cutting quality and reduce mechanical stress on machine components when processing complex or heavy profiles.

Application context
The integration of Lantek software into Machitech machines reflects a broader shift toward tightly coupled machine–software ecosystems in advanced cutting operations. For manufacturers working with thick materials, long parts, or complex geometries, this approach supports higher first-part accuracy, reduced setup time, and more predictable production performance.

By aligning high-power cutting hardware with specialized CAD/CAM software, the partnership aims to address the technical and operational requirements of modern steel fabrication, structural manufacturing, and tube processing applications.
