Precise machine tools and advanced cutting tools together provide outstanding metalcutting productivity. However, the link between the cutting tool and machine spindle – the tool holder – is crucial in fully achieving that productivity. Tooling manufacturers offer a wide variety of tool holder styles, with each engineered for optimum performance in certain machining applications. A machining shop, therefore, should base its choice of tool holders on its specific operations as well as on the parts it produces. Nevertheless, while shops seek to acquire the most advanced machine technology and cutting tool materials, they often place minimal importance on selecting, applying and maintaining tool holders that best fit their specific production needs.
In the beautiful and historical town of Dubrovnik, Croatia, NSK hosted its 2019 European Distributor Conference. Over 100 delegates from distribution partners across all EMEA regions attended the 3-day-event to share information and network.
By implementing a new data standard, software solutions provider EPLAN contributes to further simplifying control and switchgear construction. The new standard increases the quality of article and device data in EPLAN Data Portal, a web service offering product catalogues from numerous component manufacturers. Several thousand data sets – for instance from Rittal, leading provider of enclosure systems and IT infrastructure – are already available at this premium level, and additional well-known component manufacturers are working on providing data in line with this new standard.
Adding to the already versatile JOYSCAPE platform, RAFI is now offering heavy-duty joysticks for outdoor machines and other applications in which control components must meet extremely demanding requirements.
Desktop Metal, the company committed to making 3D printing accessible to engineers and manufacturers, today announced the launch of 4140 chromoly steel for the Studio System™, the world’s first office-friendly metal 3D printing system for prototyping and low volume production. One of the most versatile chromoly steels, 4140 is characterized by its toughness, high tensile strength, and abrasion and impact resistance, making it a key all-purpose steel for industrial applications.
For aerospace shops struggling with holemaking and milling operations in hybrid stacked materials, the new JC899 Hybrid Stack finisher and JC898 rougher from Seco Tools are ideal solutions. The finisher, JC899, features a patented two-in-one geometry that eliminates problems with delamination and fiber pulling out when working with stacked materials such as carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) combined with titanium/aluminum. Together with the JC898 rougher, the JC899 finisher offers three to six times more tool life over conventional drill/reamer combinations and generates pollution-free holes and side walls with perfect surface finishes to deliver up to 300 percent greater process efficiency.
In co-operation with the WBA (World Bearing Association), NSK has developed a new app to help combat the ongoing issue of fake bearings. In recent years, the company has been working closely with the WBA, JBIA (Japan Bearing Industry Association) and authorities around the world to enforce law and order on counterfeiters, and eliminate bogus bearings from the marketplace.
HARTING Applied Technologies and VMR GmbH & Co. KG rely on 3D Systems’ Cimatron integrated CAD/CAM software to enhance data integration through the entire mold-making process, improve tools quality, reduced scrap and accelerate delivery time.
In order to separate, printed-circuit boards are first scored and then any uneven or rough surfaces are milled. For this purpose, LHMT GmbH develops highly specialized tools that fully automate not only the actual scoring and milling process, but also the loading and unloading of the sensitive circuit boards. For safe, gentle handling of these parts, LHMT turned to J. Schmalz GmbH. Schmalz was able to implement a reliable gripper solution thanks, in part, to their new NBR ESD suction cups.
